Numbers Game, Version 2027
April 10, 2026
From our DOGE-Lives department...
The proposed budget for 2027 would cut $83,351,000,000 from current programs (table) while delivering an additional 1.5 trillion to the "war" department, leaving, presumably the residual $68 billion to be added to the national debt. GOP "cost cutting" at its best. At worst it's a cruel scam intended to move another mountain of cash trumpward (with a nod to his betters, of course).
Cost-saving "offsets" will save the average taxpayer $1.42 per day in federal income tax. The current treasury bond rate is 4.3%. Thus, for example only, the $68 billiion will cost the government 4.3% X $68,000,000,000 or $3,060,000,000 per year or about $0.19 per taxpayer, less than one cent per day, i.e., no real savings; it's a wash.
Now let's consider the 1.5 TRILLION that the administration wants to give Pith Hugslop for the "war" department. Since that's more debt, taxpayers will pay carrying charges of about (4.3%*1.5Tn=0.0645 tn ÷ $64,500,000,000 or 64,500,000,000/161000000/365=1.0976 per capita per day. So the $1.42 savings is offset by the $1.10, leaving each taxpayer a "benefit" of 32 cents per day, NOT INCLUDING the fact that this is an interest-only calculation, meaning we and our descendants will someday have to pony up the $1.5 trillion principal. That principal amounts to a debt of $9,316.77 per taxpayer. Amortizing that over an average adult's working life of 40 years amounts to a monthly payment of $78.32 or a daily debt of $2.57. Subtracting that from your "savings" on next year's budget leaves you with a daily obligation of (.32-2.57=$2.25).
Now if you don't have the extra $78.32, I'm sure you can borrow it on an interest-only basis from Trump's World Liberty Financial at an annual interest rate of around 20% compounded daily. The daily interest on that loan will be only around four cents, which will of course if deferred increase your debt, until after 40 years you'll owe Trump & Fils something like $232,958 (double for married couples filing separately, of course). A team of "repurposed" ICE agents will then come to collect it, from you or from your heirs, who will or course curse your name.
